Role: The sustainment backbone that enables the MEU to operate continuously ashore and afloat by providing supply, maintenance, transport, engineering, medical, and services support. The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, or MEU, is capable of conducting amphibious operations and crisis response, among other missions. In this final rule, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) amends the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) by adding a new `Military End User' (MEU) List that includes the first tranche of entities. The MEU is the smallest of the MAGTFs and is comprised of about 2,500 Marines and Sailors. The MEU's major elements are the Command Element (CE), the Ground Combat Element (GCE), the Aviation. Marine Expeditionary Units (MEU) are self-sustained, forward-deployed rapid response forces. Embarked aboard amphibious assault and landing ships, each MEU remains in a constant state of readiness—empowering the Nation’s leaders to plan and execute a wide range of missions within hours. The CONUS-based MEUs are 11th, 13th and 15th from the West Coast and the 22d, 24th, and 26th MEUs from the East Coast. The 31st MEU is forward assigned and located in Okinawa, Japan. The MEU is unique in that its air and ground combat elements are combined with a logistics combat element under one commander; other services do not unite the command of air and ground forces until much higher command levels.
