Diphenhydramine is obviously an anti-histamine, so even a dose like 50 mg could have you down, even if you aren't put out by higher doses of GABAergic drugs like benzos and alcohol. Anti-histamines are iffy in opiate withdrawals, but if I were to take diphenhydramine, I'd take 50 mg for sleep. Now don't get me wrong, I know that diphenhydramine is usually used to potentiate the effects of the hydrocodone, but I'm not talking about dosing them together, as I only need the Benadryl to help me sleep. Within lies the problem---every time I start taking Benadryl to help me fall asleep, I notice a pretty large difference in my tolerance. Benadryl the day after creates DXM effects because it's a deliriant. It's actually more like the DXM hangover potentiating Benadryl's effects.
