2g renovation

Hello to you all. I am a new member. I am 2nd owner of a sweet cherry 1987 F150 4.9 cyl 4 spd extend cab long bed. It was given to me by my Father who was the original owner. I love this truck I tow my boat and Lance cabover all over Cali. Here's the question to you all. i just sold my Bass Tracker boat and purchased a 21 footer cuddy cabin. I can still tow both camper and boat but I feel I. What are the most likely causes of the battery light staying on in the instrument cluster? I just replaced the battery last week w/ a brand new one (not because of this issue). The light came on after I got it back from the exhaust shop. I did the homemade mil-eliminator for the O2 sensor (new one of those as well) and that solved the check engine light from going cat-less.but now I have. Re: where is my voltage regulator?? by Steve83 » Sun Aug 29, 2010 12:10 am '87-91 use a 2G alternator with an internal VR. Upgrading to the 3G 130A is easy and highly recommended. 2Gs have a habit of catching fire, and they were never that good to begin with. You can find a full article about this swap on ?. Re: 1992 Ford F150 Battery (amp) Light by Steve83 » Wed Jan 25, 2012 6:06 am The voltage regulator on the back of the alternator is bad, or miswired. Read these captions.or do you have the 2G that looks like this? Crossing the jumper cables usually damages the alternator, and that 2G is already known to be a dangerous design. It won't affect how the engine runs (or not), but I suggest you disconnect its wiring, and start reading up how easy it is to swap in a '93-96 3G. 5.4L; AEM Brute Force intake, Helix Throttle Body spacer, Motoblue Underdrive Pulleys, Edge Evolution program, Pacesetter Headers, Flomaster 40 series, Pro-comp 6 lift, 37x12.50 Pro Comp Xterrains, Eagle alloy 7-lug rims, Total Chaos tubular upper control arms, pro-comp traction bars, 4 Hella 500 off-road lights, cobra CB w/firestick antenna. This is my baby! That's odd for a '93 to have a 2G; '92 was the last year on trucks. Is your truck actually a '93 model? Look at the 10th digit of the VIN: If you can't find a 3G harness at a JY, it's cheaper, easier, & usually better to convert the 2G harness to 3G than to try to build your own from scratch. The fuse on the Ex harness is in the A circuit, between the battery & the A terminal on the VR. Where. I recently became the proud owner of a 2003 f150 with 4.2l 5 speed manual transmission and it runs like a top with a weird exception. When the engine is warm and left for 10-600 minutes (like your standard stop at a store or restauraunt), the engine will turn over for 5 seconds or so before starting. So far it seems to start every time. I have replaced the fuel and air filters and have cleaned. HELP PLEASE! Hi. I have a 1980 ford half ton. It has a 4 speed standard and a posi 9 inch rear-end. My 4.9 300 straight six is now toast. Can I take the same engine from a 1988 and put in? The 88 is an efi that I might want to keep as an efi if it is not too much work. Engine is complete intake to pan (wiring harness, evap and power steering pump included). What other parts are needed to make. 1997 V6 4.2L F-150 by Hotness » Wed Aug 17, 2005 11:15 pm.
